Knife tool acts erratically

The knife tool in Illustrator acts erratically. When I try and cut a line it ends up going where ever it wants.

Do you use a mouse? A Wacom? The Wacom driver is currently not compatible.

Do you have Smart Guides turned on? That could cause some of the jumpy behavior. I'm often toggling Ctrl+U to turn it on/off when drawing/editing paths.
