Libraries and Graphic with blends

When I save graphic elements containing blends to a Library then place the Library element back onto the artboard I cannot edit the blends. If I "jump into" the library object I can edit the blends but have no point of reference with the artwork on my artboard. If I "embed" the library object I lose the blends. So, what use is a Library element to me?? I'd like to use a library element as a starting point for similar graphic elements but the Library limitations seem to always get in the way. Just give me the option to drag-n-drop the original artwork into the existing file… please.

I stand corrected… Option+Dragging from the Library window does exactly what I want. Egg-on-face.
