Linked images MISSING AFTER recovery

AI crashes - Upon opening it again, I'm immediately hit with "Linked files missing" and when I do attempt to replace them, I notice the name of the file isn't even appearing, so I don't even know which file it's asking for. It only shows two quotation marks for the name of the fine and nothing in between. 

Nothing was done with the source files, so is should link just fine.

But none of them are present.

I am afraid that the missing links are exactly that.

Hopefully, you have backups of earlier versions where you can gather the (names of the) links.

You may also consider going back and then bring the latest changes over, depending of the work involved in either approach.
