Do Adobe plan to make a soft for linux?
Why we must use Windows?
Why we must use OS X?
Linux is perfect OS, and nothing seems to be a problem to make a linux versions of Illustrator, Photoshop, etc...
Maybe for ONE distro only, SuSE for example.
Same price, but for LINUX.
It would not be work harder on linux for designers!!!
It would be much easier!
Where is no one reason why Windows is better linux, except that under linux is no illustrator, photoshop and others.

Don't hold your breath - we'll have to wait out the decline of the monopoly first. But in the meantime try out Inkscape. Illustrator and Photoshop will run under WINE or CrossOver Linux.

Any news about an Adobe plan to make a release of their Creative Suite for Linux ?

I can't stand using Windows and it should be easy to adapt the Mac OS release for Linux.

"we'll have to wait out the decline of the monopoly first"

Catch 22 situation...

The reason Windows has a monopoly is precisely because companies don't release Linux versions of their applications.
Believe me, the number of Linux users would skyrocket if they did.

At this time, Inkscape can't correctly work this CMYK and EPS files. And GIMP too. Question is why Adobe write their soft for ugly Windows? 🙂 They can do this for one good enough distro for first time. Suse or Debian... Ubuntu.

I've been using for 6 years Windows.

3,5 years Windows XP, 0,5 Vista and 2 years of Windows7 (since the betas releases).

5 days ago I installed ubuntu on my friend recommend, and now I'm like: What the hell was in my mind? I should use Linux since first release.

I have the same question... Will ever Adobe release a dreamweaver and a Photshop version for Linux? Since is OpenSource I don't think will be a big problem, and yes I agree with qu1j0t3, if Adobe will release their products for Linux then Windows will go down.

KOffice has Krita for raster work and Karbon14 for vector work. Krita is more of a Corel Painter-esque program, but with some functions you might expect from GIMP, not really a design/photography program like GIMP. The reason I mention these is because they're robust applications with CMYK & RGB support.

Unfortunately, despite GIMP's feature set, the amount of active developers is dwindling, and although the obvious missing features like non-destructive layer effects and different color mode support are ready to get hacked out, it's going to take more time than expected. You'll probably have to wait until GIMP 3.0 for it to be a complete Photoshop replacement for all necessary functionality, although given GIMP does have a lot of features Photoshop does not.

So, for your own projects, you're probably best off using KOffice applications if you need to work with print, at least for converting your projects to the correct color mode. Of course, it may be a more realistic option to fund Wine's development so you can use the whole suite natively in Linux, rather than just Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and a few others like what are supported now. That's likely the quickest way it will happen- Adobe doesn't seem to recognize its user base on Linux, for a multitude of small reasons, I'm sure.

I think the biggest reason is that there's no way to tell empirically how many Linux users there are, and how many are design-oriented. There may be 1 million or 10 million. Nobody knows for sure.

Of course, it would be more responsible to consolidate the code base into a cross-platform toolkit to prevent unnecessary coding, but it would probably be as epic a task as CS was, and with less reasonable improvements for end users on other platforms. The situation may be unfair, but a mutually beneficial solution is difficult to find today. Might make more sense to improve capabilities and format compatibility with open source design tools if Adobe's not paying attention to us. 😕
