Measure tool slows down illustrator when selecting complex objects. Cannot be disabled?

The new feature added in 29.3, that measures the area of a selected object, causes illustrator to lag and not work properly. There is no way to disable it. Every time I select the measuring tool, illustrator starts lagging (zoom tool for example gets really sluggish).  Attached is a video for example.

Is there any way to disable it? I did not find any myself.

I am using ver 29.5.1

The measure tool itself is not very useful for anything apart from the area measurement (because it doesn't snap). But zooming while measuring does not make it any more useful. Measuring the area of that complex group on the other hand makes no sense either.

So I'm not quite sure about the workflow you are having there and what is your goal. And on top of that I cannot replicate the behaviour.

Is the GPU preview on? Are you having zooming issues just with this workflow or in other situations as well? When was the last time you rebooted the computer?

Gpu preview is on. Turning it off makes it work almost as fast as before, but the zoom is still clunky.

Zooming issues and lag only occur when I have an object selected and i activate the measuring tool. Tried after a reboot, and no changes. Updating gpu drivers to the latest version also did not change anything.

My workflow was using the measuring tool to measure distance between two objects (without the need for it to be perfectly accurate) and then using the distance to move the selected object with ctrl + D, because the measuring tool remembers the last distance measured.

Hi @martink15467522,

Thanks again for all the details you've shared so far. To help us test this more accurately on our end, could you please share one of the affected Illustrator files where you're experiencing the lag with the Measure Tool? Package the file and share it via any of the publically available cloud services like Google drive, Dropbox, etc. This will allow us to reproduce the issue and see if we can identify what's causing the slowdown. If the file is confidential, you can share it via DM as well.

Looking forward to your file and update.

Abhishek

Hello @martink15467522,

Sorry for the delayed response. It seems the option to download the files is disabled. Could you reshare the files again with the option to download checked, so I can try it on my end?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Anubhav
