The text is outlined, right?

Ungroup it and make a compound path.

Bring it to the front.

Select text and nest and make a clipping mask.

Not sure from that exactly what result you want, but try Exclude instead.

Thank you for responding. I am trying to have the lines formed by the nest in the text. and the rest of the image is no longer there. Excluded didn't add the lines to the text and it merged the two images as one.

Glad you could solve it!

 

If you want to really finally cut off the hidden parts, you can use the Pathfinder "Crop". Might be needed for plotting the artwork.
