I was working on a client file and needed to use image trace; while playing around with the options, all my work disappeared asides from the image. I tried my ways to see how I can get my data back but it seems that there is a bug that causes your work to be erased. Im very disappointed. Does anyone know a way to check file history?
Okay, I found a way to retrieve my old data through version history. But still, what a weird bug.
I think the Illustrator team would be very interested if you could repeat the problem and describe the steps.
I would suggest a backup of any document that you venture to use for testing or just playing around.
And frequent backups under different names and in different (kinds of) places for all documents you would miss if gone.
We understand how frustrating it can be to have your work disappear in the middle of work. We are glad you could recover your work using Version History. To better understand the origin of the problem, would you mind sharing more details, like the exact version of OS/Illustrator, the steps taken when this happened, and if you can recreate this problem with a different file? If yes, kindly share a screen recording (https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/screen-record-an-issue-on-windows-amp-macos-f...) recreating the steps and the problem and share a sample file (https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/share-your-files-in-6-simple-steps/td-p/12967...) so we can check this with the product team.
We appreciate your time and effort in helping us resolve this problem.
You most likely have a bad combination of settings. Would happen in this case. Change mode from Black and White, should help get you
You're not alone. I just lost 5 hours of work because of this bug. I've encountered it often in the past few months... it has NOTHING to do with settings, it's simply a glitch in their systems. I wish they'd address this.
File history doesn't work.
We understand how frustrating it can be to lose important work. Would you mind sharing more details, like the exact version of the OS/Illustrator, whether the Ai file you were working on was saved locally (if yes, the exact location of the folder) or if it was saved as a cloud document, and the exact steps taken when encountering this problem along with a screen recording (if you're able to replicate this) so we can investigate this further?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
