Offset Path Dialog Box Won't Show Up

I'm working on a tutorial to create an outline and the dialog box to offset the path is not showing up. I've reset the window, closed the app then re-opened it, and made sure it wasn't in another part of the program. Nothing appears.

Normally the Offset Path command can work on groups of objects and even pieces of live Point Text. Does the Offset Path command work on other objects in that document or in another document? I would inspect the letters for any clusters of anchor points that are doubled up on top of each other or anything else unusual. Sometimes those kinds of issues can gum up offset path effects.

Can you expand your layers panel so we can see what is going on in that group.
