Oversaving an .ai file to a .pdf file but not showing the file format change on the tab

Usually when I oversave from an .ai file to a .pdf file on illustrator, you can see the change in the name of your file. Now, it still saves the .pdf version, but won't change the name in the tab and will present itself as .ai still, when I have definitely saved over as a pdf.

Anyone know why this is the case? I have already quit my Illustrator and restarted my laptop,  but it still persists. Makes it difficult to remember when I have created a PDF copy of my AI file.

That is not a PDF. How are you saving over your file? Can you send a screenshot of your entire Save As dialog box with the PDF format chosen?

I don't know what you mean by oversave, but are you using the keyboard shortcut to save file or are you pulling from the File menu, because are you sure you are doing as SAVE AS (shift-ctrl-S) and not SAVE A COPY (alt-ctrl-S)?
