Pen tool misbehaving, wrt anchor points

Hi. All of a sudden the pen tool in Illustrator is placing anchor points before I have clicked mouse. It is happeneing when it is clear that the next anchor point will need the front handle bar deleted in order to follow the curve. This is a new problem. I have checked the 'snap to's'. None are active. Any other ideas?

Is your mouse battery powered?

Did you just update Illy? A prefs reset probably wouldn't hurt.

USB mouse, no updates.

Anything else change recently - new printer, new extension, new software, even if it's unrelated to Illy...?

There can be still issues with USB devices.
