3D effects can only be applied to vector shapes.
So if you want to copy a Photoshop path to Illustrator, then either Copy-Paste or saving as Shape layer and then saving as PSD would be appropriate.
Or what is your plan in this workflow?

converting the PS mock up to vector. It does not allow for the shape to contain content like a smart object so when saving the shape it saves the shell/mask of the content.

Please show something.
You will have to re-create it in Illustrator. Mockups typically are not 3D files in Photoshop.

Hello @Xavier22946579qmft,
Thanks for reaching out. Would you mind exporting as a PNG instead of the JPEG format, as the latter does not support transparency, and checking if it helps?
Looking forward to your response.
Thanks,
Anubhav

The background remains transparent when saving as a png, however since is not true vector it will not recgonize in AI.
