Picture quality degraded during laser printing

Can someone help me figure out if something in my file settings or pdf export is making gradients so poor after laser printing? My Adobe PDF preset has always been Illustrator Default, can it be coming from there?

Somehow our ink jet printed sample doesn't show any issues but printing with a laser printer makes all these gradient layers appear.
I've never had the issue before with the same export process and can't really figure out what can cause this.....

Picture 1 refers to the ink jet printer sample.
Picture 2 refers to the laser printer sample.

Thank you all in advance.
