PNG files magically not working in illustrator or Photoshop

Yesterday 8/26/22 everything was fine...was working with PNG files in Illustrator and PS..

This morning I went to open a couple of PNGs and nothing....no drag/drop...no Place...no open files...pulling my hair out...Unistalled/Reinstalled Illustrator...still the same problem...What happened overnight? Nothing logical is happening...Going back to bed and maybe will wake up from this nightmare.

I am afraid corrupt preferences can linger even when you uninstall and reinstall.

You can try to:

Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible, and you can lose customized settings, if any), or

Follow the instructions here, you can preserve the preferences as described:
https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html
