Problem painting

Hello all! Newbie here and needing some help, I uploaded a handsketch to Adobe Illustrator, used the pen tool to trace it and am now trying to color it but the system will not allow it. Any tips, or can someone see something I cant? Thank you!

Maybe you selected some elements that can't be used in Live Paint.

Like the fishes, are those images?

I hope Ton's suggestions helped resolve the problem. If not, kindly share a link to a sample file after uploading to a cloud-sharing service like Google Drive/Dropbox/etc., and a screen recording of your workflow (if possible) so we can investigate this further.

Hello @Ton Frederiks I ungrouped the fish and tried applying color and still got no results. Anything else I can try?

I only get that message when I click somewhere other than the selected objects with the live paint bucket. Are you actually clicking on your selection, or somewhere else?
