Problems with copy and paste in Illustrator

Has anyone experienced an issue where you can copy vector objects from one file into another ONLY IF YOU HAVEN'T MADE CHANGES TO THE DOCUMENT?

This is truly bizarre and frustrating. In this video I copy a vector object from one file into a new file and it copies fine, but then when I change the artboard size, now it doesn't copy correctly.

And I only used the artboard size change as an example. Performing any work in the document does the same thing. In fact, if I open an existing document, I can no longer work on any of them because I can't copy anything into them...?

I did try uninstalling and reinstalling Illustrator, but it still happens. This is a new issue because I've been using Illustrator for a year without any issues like this.

I have no addons installed and nothing installed that manipulates my clipboard or anything like that.  This issue started after the last Illustrator update or the one after that.

I'm still not convenced about nothing interfering wth your clipboard.
