This is probably an extremely basic and simple question, however, while working in Illustrator I noticed that while trying to use the brush tool, instead of drawing a simple line, it's using the Leather Seam pattern? I'm extremely new to Illustrator, as in this is the first time I've opened it, but I tried to find how to rid of it, but nothing seems to show up. Sorry for asking what is probably a ridiculous question, but it's really frustrating. Here's a screenshot of what is happening, if that helps.
UPDATE: I realized that I was not selecting the right thing and answered my own question, oops.

I'm having the same problem and uh, that answer is not helpful.

The answer is probably to select another brush from the brushes panel.

Every time I select another brush, it just goes to that brush when I start drawing with it.

That "other brush" you are selecting is not the "Basic" brush?
The brush tool won't draw with the basic brush, because the basic brush is not a brush at all.
If you want to draw just a simple line, use the pencil tool.
