Randomly duplicate artboard numbers: STILL a bug

Hi,

As said in this locked thread, the bug in Illustrator which randomly doubles or skips the artboard numbers (so they definitely will not match the exported PDF's page numbers) STILL exists.

Today this cost me a lot of lost time and material since I reprinted and cut the wrong 4 pages on vinyl.

Illustrator 29.3.1 on macOS Sequoia 15.3.1

Can you reproduce it in a new file? If so what are the steps?

Would you mind sharing more details, like a screen recording of your exact workflow steps to replicate this issue, as Doug suggested, and a link to a sample file after uploading it to a file-sharing service, so I can check it on my end?
