reducing nodes

In the curved shape im attaching, i wish to change the number of nodes (make them less, from 11 to 3) but without altering the curve's shape... is it possible to do this in some automatic way?

Did you try Object > Path > Simplify?

I did try it but although it reduces some nodes, it doesnt keep the curvature of the object intact 😞

Which version of Illustrator do you have? In the recent versions Simplify does a decent job, especially if you go into the Advanced options.

If simplify can't do it, try the plugin VectorScribe with its Smart Eraser tool
