Please elaborate so we can follow along with you as to what exactly you did. What is meant by make a rendering?
The artwork to me looks like a placed bitmap (of which I would use the .PSD format) and a vector mask added to that. Are you saying that this took over 2 hours to draw the preview on the screen???
If those are all vector paths from maybe a livetrace, then you should let us know so we can provide the proper advice.

Thanks MikeGondek,
This is the process
1-A pdf file is received from the client and it is opened in Adobe Illustrator.
2-The image is modified in Potoshop and to create bitmap separations.
3-Then the image is worked on in Illustrator to achieve the desired color scale.
4-After the art is finished, the file is saved in pdf with characteristics that the pdf can be modified to create other sizes
Gracias!!

Agree with Mr. Gondek. Unless this is some super complex Substance 3D texture rendered parametrically the "render time" seems unreasonable - whatever you mean by that. The GPU not being used would further enforce this point. Some more info certainly would help.

We are sorry to hear that. I read your workflow, and it seems the issue is not with GPU usage but with the file size. This is expected behaviour, but the performance & exporting time can be further improved using a high read & write SSD and RAM.
However, if possible, you may share a sample AI file that takes a couple of hours on your machine when saving it as a PDF. I will check at my end & share my observation with you.
Looking forward to your response.
