I have this attached shape in Ilustrator.

I want to remove the black arrow( including the added stroke )  from the background pink letters( LOVE ). So basically the pink letters will have cutouts where the black arrow passes through them.

How do i do that as i tried path finder and it does not seem to work. Iam using illustrator 2020 version.

Make an opacity mask instead.

The black things need to be grouped.

Then select all and in the transparency panel click on Make Mask.

Uncheck Clip.
