Contributor ,

Hello

I want to know how to select same (shapes) in illustrator

Ex: If i draw diiferent stars or any other  same shapes with different stroke and color fill

I want to find a method to select these shapes based on the shape itself not stroke and color fill or stroke weight .

Any help

Thanks

The options available in Illustrator are those that you see under the Select > Same, and Select > Object menu. There is nothing under that menu to select, for example, all star shapes regardless of their stroke and fill colors.

There's not enough explanation in your question for me to know what your aim is in selecting similar shapes. However, it is possible that dynamic symbols might be useful for you.

Or you might consider grouping objects with similar shapes. That way you could use the group selection tool to work with individual objects within the group, and when you want to select all objects in the group, either click more than once with the group selection tool or use the black Selection tool.

Thanks for your Reply Barbara

I want to tell you that when i opened select  > same ,, there are ( shape ) but it is grayed ( not activated )

It works only when with rectangle shapes or elipse shapes but not work with star shapes

My aim is when i searched for backgrounds vector I found amazing backgrounds  but containes similar shapes but with different fill color and stroke and i want to  copy these shapes and paste it in my own design

Unfortunately, there's no fast easy way to accomplish what you need. Depending on the background, it might be easier for you to select the shapes using View > Outline.

One of the many possibilities in FreeHand's Graphic Find And Replace feature was to find paths of the same shape. Illustrator has nothing like it.
