Hi,
I noticed that changing the selection tolerance in the preferences dialog box between 1-8 px doesn’t affect my work. Can anyone explain the purpose of this option?
By the way, my screen is 24" 1920x1200 px.
Thank you 🙂

Hi @greiss,
Thanks for reaching out with your question! I understand how it can feel puzzling when changes in settings like selection tolerance don’t seem to make a noticeable difference in your workflow.
The selection tolerance setting determines how close your cursor needs to be to an anchor point or path before selecting it. However, factors like Snap to Point or other snapping features being enabled might override this, making it harder to notice the effect of changing tolerance values.
Would you mind checking if Snap to Point or any snapping options are enabled in your Illustrator preferences? If they are, temporarily disabling them might help you see how the tolerance setting impacts your selections.
Feel free to share more details, and I’d be happy to assist you further.
Best,
Anshul Saini

Maybe your are not zoomed in far enough to see the difference? 1px is pretty darn small, so if your zoomed out you would not notice. Just a guess, but my professor said (at first) there are so many issues that can be fixed by zooming in.
