Shadows show up weak in Illustrator

I have suddenly found that shadows are showing up weak in Illustrator, however they look normal when I export images. I've tried changing the color view settings but nothing seems to work. This might have happen right after the latest update (v 28.1), although I'm not sure if it's related. See screenshots below:

 

Anyone have a clue as to what's going on?

Yes, it is a known problem.
