I've been wrestling with a recurring issue in Illustrator 29.5 (64-bit) where elements within a group fail to stay aligned with a bounding box included in the group. I build installation guides that include vehicle wiring diagrams, and the illustrated wiring is grouped with a bounding box (no fill, no stroke) that's used in conjunction with the snap-to-grid function to ensure proper alignment of the wire group on top of the component connector layer.
The issue that I have been having is that when I copy/paste a group, the alignment is off. The vertical alignment of the wires in the group are a few pixels higher than the original, and when I try to align the group by aligning the bounding box to a target on the artboard, the bounding box aligns perfectly but the wires do not.
In this screenshot the uppermost layer, the one which includes the gray, lt. blue, and pink wires is misaligned vertically, the component connector and red line segment (part of the target for the bounding box) are on the bottom layer, and you can make out a middle layer that contains the targets for the wire group, and the gray shadow of the targets underlining the pasted elements. Ideally, the wires and target wires should be perfectly aligned, as is the bounding box and box target after a copy/paste action, but they're not. And I can't confirm whether it's the wires or the bounding box that is being shifted during the process, all total there are 12 wire elements and one bounding box in the group, and to correct the issue I must select and reposition the wires individually or in small groups so that's why I have chosen to refer to that as the issue, it may well be that the bounding box is what's moving during the process.
This is how it should look when the alignment is correctly maintained. Notice that the illustrated wires are not underlined with the gray shadow of the wire targets.
There have been no issues building groups from scratch. I start with a bounding box, position that, and follow it with the required line groups. Each line group is positioned and modified to fit the previously established targets, and then everything is grouped, labeled, and locked. The issue happens when I copy one of those groups and edit one or more line groups contained within. I will copy a group, position it by aligning the bounding box with its target, then remove or add wires as needed, and that's when I notice that the bounding box and anything I just added are correctly aligned, but the rest of the wires have shifted vertically.
Thanks for any insight. This is frustrating and time-consuming.
Mike

Can you share a demo document with a few of your objects and a step by step instruction of what to do to reproduce this?

Thank you for your reply, but while attempting to recreate the issue for posting, I noticed another issue which may have been affecting the copy/paste activity, and upsetting placement. I noticed that while using the 'snap to grid' setting with the direct selection tool, placement accuracy is negatively affected if I grab the pasted elements by a node and use that to adjust position. There are no issues if I use the snap feature and adjust the position using only the arrow keys.
