Stop Artboard Tool from Autoselecting All Artboards

I'm using Illustrator 2023, and whenever I switch to the artboard tool (using the keyboard shortcut) it auto selects every artboard in the document. I often use the artboard tool to duplicate artboards, so I often end up accidentally duplicating more than I want. It mainly becomes an issue if there are complex designs that slow down the program. I looked through my preferences, and I couldn't find any tool options, so I'm wondering if there is a way  to not have any artboards selected when I switch to the artboard tool.

When I switch to the artboard tool, only the current artboard is selected. I'm not aware of a way to change this so I'm not sure how you've ended up in the reverse situation.

Can you reset preferences?

Whn I select the artboard tool, it also only selects the one I am on. What happens if you click off of any artboard before you select the tool, does the same thing happen?

Can you tell us what OS you are working on.

What happens if you don't use the shortcut but click the tool? Same select all artboards?

Is this happening on all? Just new? Open a file from a year ago and see if it does it...

That usually happens if all artboards are highlighted in the Artboards palette (though just one is active on the scratch area).

So, make sure that only one of them is highlighted in the Artboards palette.
