Hello -
I notice that Illustrator calculates the icon preview of each file every time, even though I have deactivated the icon preview saving (in the preferences panel). Cfr. attached screenshot.
The result is that some files appear grayed out (= none accessible) for a few seconds (you won't see it on the screenshot). It's tiresome and a waste of time at the end of the day.
Is there a way to avoid this?
Enjoy your day…

Did you save them with »Create PDF Copatible File« checked?

Hello c.pfaffenbichler -
Yes, indeed, we need it for a couple of reasons.

I understand there can be unavoidable reasons for this (placing in Indesign etc.) but I suspect this might be the crux in this case.
If you uncheck it, just for testing, are the files more readily available?

Hello c.pfaffenbichler -
Thx for your reply,
indeed as said multiple reasons (INDD placing, allow AI file recovery via ACROBAT in some cases, fast preview via the Finder (Mac), …)
Uncheck it isn't visible directly since it works only for new document).
So yeah may be there is no solution 😛
Thx anyways for your time.
Enjoy your day.

Hello gain 🙂
By the way, I see that your are "Community Expert", may be you could answer the follow question…
Is there a link between the ".PDF compatible" option and the icon preview?
Since I noticed that files are unaccessible (understand they appear as "grey out") until the preview of the files are visible.
I just no need the previews (and apparently it's was cause that accessibilty delay)… Annoying…

As far as I understand previews are a part of pdf, so a pdf-compatible ai would just have one.
Have you tried turning off Illustrator > Preferences > File Handling > Save in Background?
