The latest version of illustrator places all new objects/shapes behind the selected layer

Whenever I draw a new shape, it always pastes it behind the object I'm working on. This is annoying as I have to constantly fish-it-out from behind the shape or object I'm working on to place it back on top. Where is that default setting that got enabled with the latest illustrator, because I would like to get back to the ways things used to be.

Did you turn on the Draw Behind mode (middle icon at the bottom of the Toolbar)?
