Tool training videos malfunction

Explorer ,
Aug 04, 2025 Aug 04, 2025

Hello to All,

My Illustrator is displaying the short instruction videos without me even hovering over any tools. Often times I have to go and hover the mouse over the video for it to go away; the videos don't even disappear when I've got the artboard in presentation mode - so annoying!

Has anyone else experienced this and managed to... MAKE IT STOP?! ;D

Do you have those videos turned off altogether already? It's the "Rich tool tips" option in the General Preferences.

Did you already try and reset the preferences?

I haven't got them turned off, no - I didn't realise this can actaully be done! 😉
Thnaks for the tip Monika! 🙂
Though I'm not sure if I'd like them turned off altogether... Would just prefer for them to start working as they used to (cause they worked normally, without being overpresent, before...)
Wonder if I should report this as a bug perhaps 🤔

Probably report it, with information about your system and maybe the graphic card.

Does this also happen when you boot the compouter into Safe Mode? If not, it's likely an issue in your system.

I haven't tried safe mode yet...
I might just switch them off, lol

Thanks for taking the time to help me out with this Monika :bouquet:

Hi @MargoM.,

I hope Monika's suggestions helped. If the issue persists, could you share a short screen recording showing the tool tips appearing without hovering, as that would be really helpful for troubleshooting. Also, if you haven't tried it yet, I'd recommend resetting your Preferences to see if that resolves the behavior. You can follow the steps here: https://adobe.ly/4lvUMJd

Looking forward to your update.

Abhishek

Hello @Abhishek Rao
Thank you for replying!

Here's the video showing how an instruction vid starts playing without me intentionally hovering over the tool (and stubbornly stays open, even though I'm clicking away elsewhere).

I can try resetting preferences - thanks for the tip! I don't think I have ever changed anything in Preferences though (they'll all be as per what's set up as default for Illustrator) - will re-setting help in this instance (ie. if the default settings have never been changed)?

Hi @MargoM.,

Thanks again for sharing the details and recording. Could you update Illustrator to the latest version 29.7.1 and check if the issue still occurs?

Once you've tested it, please let me know the results.

Abhishek

Hi @Abhishek Rao ,
Thanks for your suggestion! I've updated Illustrator to 29.7.1 - the issue still persists though. Please see a newly snagged screenshot (freash from today) showing instruction video for the lasso tool playing while screen's in presentation mode... 🤷‍:female_sign:

and here's another screen where instruction vid still displays even after a file has already been closed (the toolbar and the tool the vid relates to are not longer even there there!)

Hi @MargoM.,

Thanks a lot for sharing the screenshots and the recording. Could you please try unchecking the Help Bar option under the Window menu in Illustrator and see if the pop-ups still appear? Also, version 29.8 is now available, so I'd recommend updating and testing the behavior there as well.

Looking forward to your update.

Abhishek

Hello Abhishek Rao,

My Illustrator is now updated to version 29.8, I have disabled the Help Bar - neither helped though, the issue still persists 🤷‍:female_sign:
