Touch Type tool blue box bug

New Here ,
Sep 13, 2023 Sep 13, 2023

Good day to you!

I am using the latest version of Illustrator. I have type on a path (at the very bottom of the circle) that needs adjustment and am using the Touch Type tool to duplicate what I am trying to copy. The type is at the bottom of a circle, so is flipped on the path. Centered on the path and was initially left aligned.

A blue box appears over the bottom bounding box corners of the letter, making it impossible to adjust the width of the character. The only option for changing the width is changing the type to small caps, lower case, or all caps. One can use the bottom left 'move the character' toggle and the other three, but not the bottom right (adjust the width).

Other characters on the circle path are fine because they are not at the bottom of the path.

I have tried disabling tool tips, restarting the program, restarting the laptop, and uninstall/reinstall Illustrator.

Anyone out there have any suggestions? Many thanks in advance.

Check if turning off the "Show Character Alternates" option in the "Type" section of the application preferences will cure the issue.

How did you flip it? Using the touch type tool or using the controls for text on the path?

Just using the Type on a Path tool options, selecting the FLIP check box, align to center of path, spacing AUTO. I did all that first and then use the Touch Type Tool.

Hello @Marie29007679rwta,

We understand how frustrating it can be to encounter technical issues while working in Illustrator. Would you mind sharing some more details, like the exact version of the OS/Illustrator, system config (CPU/GPU/Memory), a sample file (https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/share-your-files-in-6-simple-steps/td-p/12967...), and a screen recording of the problem (https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/screen-record-an-issue-on-windows-amp-macos-f...), so we can investigate this further?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav
