Trouble with the Pencil tool in Illustrator

"Hi! I'm having trouble with the Pencil tool. When I try to draw with a profile or stroke other than 'Uniform,' I select the pencil profile I want, but it automatically switches back to 'Uniform' and doesn’t let me draw with other brushes. Can someone help me fix this? Thanks!"

Try to turn off "New Art Has Basic Appearance" in the Appearance panel.
