Trying to get the newest adobe but i currently have adobe 2018

If i already own adobe 2018 is there a way for me to update it to the newest one? Or do it need to purchase the newest version?

It's a subscription. So all you need to do is make sure you have the required hardware specifiations and the minimum system. Then install the Creative Cloud app and install the latest version.
