trying to map image onto object

Hi

I have this wizard hat I want to add this tartan pattern too, but want to get the movement of the hat like the lines on stripe object.

have looked at various tutorials for mesh and 3d revolve but cannot get it to work.

Any help much appreciated

I was able to achieve this is Illustrator by first using Image Trace on the Tartan, then placing the hat over the tracing result. Choose both, and use Envelope Distort > Make with Top Object.
