type issues

For some reason when I try to add type to any document in Illustrator it looks like it's trying to simplify a path and the text just looks absolutely terrible. This happens as soon as I hit the type tool and begin typing. Creating outlines doesn't change anything, and it's not a brush applied either. I attached photos as I don't know how to describe better even what the problem is. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Do you have pixel perfect options applied? (Snap to pixel grid, etc.)

No. I've tried turning pixel preview on/off, outline view on/off, and cpu/gpu and none of that made a difference unfortunately.

Have you tried resetting your Illustrator preferences?

Go to Preferences/General and click reset preferences.

Can you share a problem document?
