Unable to paste jpeg or png files

I am unable to paste jpeg or png files into illistrator, if i take a screenshot of the image and then drop that file in it works. these files were downloaded through whats app.

Check if the jpg or png files are 8 bit. If from a phone camera they might be 16 bit which are not supported in AI. You should be able to change them in Photoshop.

Sorry to hear about this experience. I would request you to share a few more details along with the ones asked by Ton and Larry:

• Exact version of the OS and Illustrator
• Are you facing this problem when copying the image directly from WhatsApp or is it saved on the computer? If it is saved, where is it located on the computer (Internal/External/Network/Shared drive)?
• Are you able to open the JPEG/PNG image in a different application (Photoshop)?
• Would it be possible for you to share the download link to the file in which you are facing this issue here or via DM?
