Using Illustrator 2024 instead of AutoCad?

Hello, I was just wondering if anyone uses Adobe Illustrator to make and supply cad files to clients. I do have Autocad, with it's recurring cost. I just wondered if this was not a necessary step in creating dwg/dxf files for clients. Thank you.
