What to do when illustrator won't save an existing or newly created file?

I am working on an illustrator file and I cannot save it.

I created a new file a few days ago, saved it originally and then after reopening the file and working on it for several hours today, the program won't do anything when I click "save", "save as" or "export as".

I'm sure that restarting the program would resolve the issue but then I would lose everything I have done so would any of you have any helpful suggestions?

Which issue is it? The one where the save button is greyed out? Monterey 12.3? In that case try reiszing the dialog box.

Or the one where the file saves incorrectly? In that case try and turn off "Save in background" in the preferences.

It's the one where you click on the save, save as or export as and nothing happens. The aforementioned buttons are not greyed out, just nothing happens when they are clicked. I'm on Monterey 12.2.1.

I guess it doesn't matter now. Export Asset as SVG worked. Just for some reason the other options for saving or exporting aren't playing ball today. Issue resolved, for now anyway.
