When moving a placed file, it is doubling up

Hi! 

We use illustrator every day the same way. 
We have loaded it up on a new computer and its not working how it usually does. 

When we place a file, then go to move it, instead of moving, it doubles up on the file. 
We are also then unable to delete said files. 

I am guessing its a keyboard issue maybe? 
The computer is a HP laptop, same as the other one just slightly newer.
