Why does the renamed asset not change link name in the cloud link?

Contributor ,

Greetings,

I dragged objects into the Library window to create a graphic asset in Illustrator and it's given a default name of "Artwork 1". I then renamed the file to "rename-test" and then dragged it into both an InDesign file and a blank illustrator file, and I noticed that the listed name says "rename-test" in the Libraries window in both apps, but the actual link name is still listed as "Artwork 1.ai". Why doesn't it show up as "rename-test.ai" in the Link window?

Thanks for your help on this.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

@kglad but this is a cloud problem, not limited to Illustrator or InDesign

If you suggest leaving it here in Ai then this is fine. Thanks.

Monika Gause

can you help before we give up and move it back to the cc forum?  you need only check the first post.  the rest is not related to the ai issue.

I can confirm the behaviour in Illustrator.

Renaming the object in the CC library does not change its name in the Links panel in Illustrator.

Saving the .ai file, closing Illustrator and reopening the file does not show the new name.

Only when the renamed CC Libray object is double clicked in the library and the resulting file is modified (I just moved it a little bit and moved it back) and saved it will show the name in the links panel.

InDesign shows the same problem (although to my surprise I cannot link Library items in InDesign that were create in InDesign), but renaming a library item only shows the renamed name when the it is changed and saved.

Thanks, I voted for both (but don't expect too much).
