Why does the tool cursors of selection arrows, type, magnify etc- flicker? And other issues.

Tool cursors of selection arrows, type, magnify, etc- flick on and off like it is "nervous." I usually try to ignore it but it's very distracting and interferring and now it's getting on my nerves. The old illustrators were stable and precise. Also, I can't select an anchor point if it is near another that's in front even though it acknowledges the click. And why are the guides solid lines in the outline view?

Hello @rgbnites,

I am sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind updating Illustrator to the latest version, 28.7.1, and checking if it helps? If the problem persists, try running Illustrator under Safe Mode (Windows / macOS) and sharing your observations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav

Hi. I use a Mac Studio 2023, Apple M2Max chip, OS: Ventura 13.5. I used to be able to see the graphic card info but can't find it as the "About This Mac > More Info" changes to a system profile similar to the iPhone. It's uncomfortable as I don't see what info I need- I like the old listing better. I don't know if I have "Game Ready Driver." But I will upgrade to Illustrator. and yes, this has been going on for a while now. Thank you for more of your help.

Hello Monika, for your info: I upgraded Illustrator to: V28.7.1 and the cursors stopped quivering. Thank you. Imagine If I wasn't capable of accessing the Internet? These new apps would be untenable.

What kind of graphics card (or graphics chip) is installed in your computer? It's possible there could be an issue with the driver. Has this problem been going on for some time or did it just start happening? Please check to see if any updates are available for your graphics card driver.

If your computer has an NVidia-based graphics card you can check for drivers by launching the GeForce Experience app. Also with NVidia graphics boards I'd recommend using the Studio Driver rather than the Game Ready Driver that gets installed by default.

With systems like the Mac Studio the graphics chipset (or GPU) is incorporated into the main CPU. Any driver updates would be included in any operating system updates. Ventura is an older build. Have you tried updating to Sonoma 14.6.1? Or will that version break other pieces of software you have?

I still remember how things were in the 1990's. I'd receive bug fix updates for some applications via snail mail. The update would either be on a CD or even a stack of 3.5" floppies. Obviously those updates were few and far between. High speed Internet makes it so much easier. The only downside is the file sizes of these applications are enormous compared to how much disc space they used 20-30 years ago.
