Why is the clipping mask in illustrator so dumb compared to other software?

Simple question. why can you select a masked part of an object that is not visible? this is so dumb and intervenes with the design process. In this example I wanted to select mr. dicaprio but a giant square (which is supposed to be unclickable because it is inside a clipping mask) prevents me from clicking on the object. When you clip something, the click region for that object should follow the click region of the masking path! this is simple logic.

Probably this is happening because you are currently inside the isolation mode and then the whole thing is editable.
