Why is there a black line inside my stroke??

Please help. When I change a line's stroke color it leaves a black line in the center of the stroke?!?

Check your fills and strokes on the appearance panel. You may have multiple strokes applied. For anything beyond that perhaps a screenshot might be enlightening...

If it is only there when the path is selected, I believe you are looking at the spine of the path and have Black as the Layer Color.

Check your stroke alignment. If the stroke is relatively narrow, be sure it's centered.
