Zoomed Out Preview Window That Updates While You Work

Is there any way to see a zoomed out preview of your art that updates in realtime as you work?  Any plugin, workaround, or "hack" that would accomplish this?  Working on a complex illustration becomes tedious without this option.  Having to keep zooming in and out, even if it only takes a second using the mouse wheel, is still not the best workflow.

Good to hear that helped.

(But I am not a genius, I just happen to have used Illustrator since its first version in 1987 and remember this was a way to show a preview while working in outline mode)
