Can I open an Illustrator file created on my desktop within the iPad version of Illustrator?

I'm trying to open an Illustrator file (.AI) that I created on my desktop version within Illustrator for iPad. I have tried using CreativeCloud sharing as well as opening from Google Drive and Dropbox. The files appear in the file browser, but they're grayed out and won't open.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? All of the documentation seems to indicate that this should work, but I have yet to get it to function.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. Simply save the document as cloud doc (.aic). Cloud documents in Illustrator are saved and synced automatically on iPad.

For more details, please take a look at this help article (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/using/ipad-faqs.html#desktop-ipad)
