In trying to divide text so I can cut the text on my laser cutter in several pieces.  I've outlined my text but when I go to path finder the divide option is grayed out. Is there a different way to do this?

Could you please show exactly in which way you want to cut it?

I have attached a photo. I want to divide the word into thirds and make them all separate pieces.

After expanding that script font you first need to combine the letters to get rid of those holes at the overlaps. When working with Pathfinders on the iPad and you want to have the paths, you need to convert to paths after applying the pathfinder. Otherwise it is live.

And then you can draw open paths as you need and then select all and use the Divide function at the bottom of the pathfinder panel. Afterwards ungroup that and also delete all the invisible paths.
