Incredibly frustrating to have Illustrator auto close paths when drawing with the pencil. How to turn this feature off?

Can you please elaborate what exactly you want to do?

Thanks for the response. When using illustrator on the iPad, I can use the pencil to draw a line, but once done drawing, Illustrator automatically joins the end of the line with the beginning of the line. I was attempting to draw on an A2 sized page, so the distance between the end and start of the line drawn was approx 1cm. I understand the usefulness of auto join, but how do I disable this to simply draw? Or reduce the auto join threshold to 1mm? Thank you!

I'm having the same problem, did you find a solution?

Thank you for posting about this! I was all excited about using Illustrator to trace images for a project, but after 5 minutes of this auto joining I got really frustrated. I will find another tracing app in the meantime while waiting for an update. Urgh.

I see your point - when using the pencil tool, there's no option to turn off the feature, and the distance threshold is quite large. Ideally, there could be an on/off toggle as well as a threshold that could be adjusted.
I recommend that you request this feature using the in-app suggestion available under App Settings > Help.
I will update the subject line on this thread to add the this is related to the "Pencil" tool.
