Bug? Cross selection of text results in large area being selected

Can someone explain why dragging to make a selection that includes a text element results in a large window area being highlighted/selected?

A bit more detail.. it seems to be selecting other text objects (not sure if they are on the same layer or not).. see image below where I highlighted the elements selected when drag-selecting the element as shown in the video.
