Adding Image to Stroke

hi - I am trying to add an image into this stroke I made to match the font. 

I used the clipping mask to get the font to be that glitter however, its not working for the stroke. When I do i with the stroke, the stroke turns into a fill.

You need to outline the stroke.

Or use the stroke as an opacity mask (instead of a clipping mask)
