adobe illustrator 24.2.1 unable to select object with the selection tool?

I am unable to select an object with the selection tool after I updated to the lasted version of Adobe Illustrator. My layers are not locked.

Any help appreciated!

Does anything change if you use Object>Unlock All (Cmd[Ctrl]-Shift-2)? Is Object Selection by Path Only checked in Preferences?
