If you didn't do that already:

- try and reboot the computer

- try and reset the preferences (rename the folder, so it's not permanent, because it will nuke all your settings)

The preferences folder is in your user folder on your system. Please see exact location here: https://www.vektorgarten.de/illustrator-settings.html

Hi Roxanne,

Sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind sharing the version of the OS & Illustrator? Did resetting preferences as suggested by Monika in earlier response help?

In addition to that, I'd request you to try the suggestions given on this community post(https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator/resolve-slow-performance-and-unexpected-behaviors-in-illu...) & let us know if they help.

Regards,

Ashutosh

There are a couple of ways to reset your prefs, for this one I recommend a longer but more thorough method.

Reset PrefsThoroughly (Mac)

  • Quit Illustrator (100% you must do this)
  • Finder >> Go (hold down option to show hidden) >> library
  • Preferences >> Adobe  >> (Program Name) rename to (Program Name) .old
  • Library- >> Caches >> com.(Program Name) rename to (Program Name) .old
  • Library >> Application Support >> Adobe >> (Program Name) rename to (Program Name) .old
