When using the pen tool, is there a function on Illustrator that lets you know where you can draw in alignment with a previously drawn line? Sorry if that sounds confusing. Here, I am trying to draw a van and I want the lines going horizontally to all be along the same y-coordinate (circled in red).

Smart Guides may help (see View menu and their settings in the application preferences).

Of course, it's not quite clear how you are drawing your vans, so it may or may not help.
